TRANSPORTATION-UPDATE 01
Further thoughts on getting around [full article here]
I’ve looked into this quite a bit and for the moment I can offer only this advice…….Use the local or county “Handi-bus”. It’s called by different names in different locales. It’s your best bet right now. Also friends can be a source.
The biggest problem with the Handi-bus is the hours of operation. Most are on the order of 9 to 5, M-F so, useful but not if you’d like to go somewhere in the evening, or on a weekend. Plus there is usually a 24 hr advance scheduling stipulation.
So here’s what I’l like to see:
- A fully volunteer organization
- Available, basically 24/7/365
- Free or limited cost (nominal charge or “gas money”
- Tagged on to local “Handi-bus” infrastructure
- Funded or assisted by local businesses.
Pretty simple plan. Not so simple to implement, but I intend to try it in my “home” county; Population ~5000, 400 sq miles, served by City (2400 souls) and County Handi-bus (nominal fee, extended radius of two hours or 100 miles or so, 8A to 4P M-F)
To keep this particular Post from running on and on please go HERE to read the whole plan.
Thanks………..Kirk
